Can aniline wood stain and Oil Finish go together

I have tried applying Oil Finish (Danish Oil) on these two projects #1 Hanging rack/key holder (with aniline stain) and #2 Tool handle (without stain). Both projects were made from two different wood species. The findings through my observation :
1. The stained wood is a bit blotchy,
2. The unstained wood is easy to buff either with or without wax (beeswax) and has even color,
3. The grain pattern/character of the unstained wood looks clear and better.

My question is, can aniline (water-based stain) go together with Oil Finish?
