Two flute Carbide Tipped bits with anti-kickback design for safety. These handy bits route versatile screw slots for securing large panels or tabletops. Hole allows for expansion and contraction due to changing temperature and humidity, preventing the wood from splitting and the screw from failing. "Screw Slot Bits... Making slots for screws — rather than simply drilling around pilot holes — is sometimes essential to allow for wood movement or for adjustability. But making those slots can be really putzy. Did you know you can get a router bit to cut those slots? Two, in fact: one to make a slot with a countersink for a ftathead screw, another for a counterbored slot for a roundhead screw. Both are porportioned for #8 screws. Use the bit in a plunge router (or in a table-mounted router) to cut a slot in one quick operation. Clean slots for #8 screws are a job for the router, not the drill press. I use a plunge router with self centering base to put these into table top supports. So much better than the way I used to do it with a drill and countersink bit. Worth every penny.

seems to work OK -
I guess my one complaint is that the bit cutting height is only barely 3/4" - it's hard to cut a through slot on 1-by material. I had to flip it over and use the tip to clean up the bottom of the hole. I could have routed the slot deeper, but I felt the countersink part was already plenty deep.
