Cast Iron Router Table Package (3/5), Sep 17, 2018

By Edward C. Miller (Norwalk Oh US)

I would have given this package 5 stars hands down if it weren't for the following issues:

The packaging for the table top and the fence had a lot to be desired and was completely unacceptable.

The 110 pound cast iron top was cracked on the flange on both front corners from being dropped during shipping and handling. It was packed in nothing more than a plastic bag wrapped in a cardboard box made from recycled materials. It should have been shipped in a crate.

The fence packaging was in a bad state of disintegration. Luckily, The fence itself, miraculously, did not have a scratch on it; the only reason for this was that the fence's box was strapped piggy-back to the box in which the table legs were packaged.

The table legs were heavy and were packaged in nothing more than thin plastic wrap and slipped into a cardboard box. The legs did not sustain any damage.

The lift and the electronics were packaged very well as expected.

I assembled everything, as the cracked corner flanges will not effect function. The table top is perfectly flat and the assembly is rock solid.

    All the electronics function perfectly.

Overall this is a really nice router table, but for the $1100 price tag I don't expect to have a cracked table top.

    Nice (4/5), Feb 27, 2018

By Gordon Stump (NEW BOSTON MI US)

I rout a lot of small moldings for my woodworking business. I use a 1/4 hp power feeder and need the stiffness of cast iron.
My previous table was the old Woodsmith classic with extra 2 x 4s!

This is a nice hunk-o-cast iron casting. I was pleasantly surprised the fence was labeled American Eagle.
I really like the square tubing on the pro base. I flipped the bottom braces so I can make modular drawers and set them down on the cross members rather then down in the cross members.

The leveling holes in aluminum insert should have been chamfered(counter sunk) before taping for the leveler bolts. The aluminum is raised up and sharp. This cost MCLS 1 star! Overall I am very happy with this router table.

Cast iron router table top (3/5), Jan 20, 2018

By David Miller (Macedonia OH US)

Poorly packaged by manufacturer. Mine had a small corner knocked off the casting that did not affect performance. Two edges were knicked enough to require smoothing with a file to avoid damage to wood work pieces. The table is dead flat along its length but is slightly dished along its width. This is typical these days to other machines I have purchased with cast iron tops. They just don't make them the way they did 50 years ago. The mounting holes aligned perfectly with the 9565 stand. Be aware that your signature will be required to take delivery from UPS. I was not aware of that and ended up having to go to the UPS service center to pick up my table after two failed attempts to deliver it my home while I was at work. The dishing of the table along its width is the primary reason I gave a 3 star rating.
